Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN, RN II, RN III) governed by the Nurse Practice Act, Administrative Code, professional standards, and Rogers Memorial Hospital policies
  • Ability to complete initial assessments and document patient data including strengths, limitations, cultural/spiritual/ethnic factors, discharge needs, medical/physical status, medication history, and age-specific needs
  • Knowledge of hospital policies on unit safety, gown/contraband searches, patient rights, consents, privacy, and confidentiality
  • Skills in involving patient support systems (family, friends) in assessments and documentation
  • Ability to act as patient advocate, explain rights, obtain signatures, and assist in orientation
  • Competence in initiating, updating, and interpreting treatment plans, participating in care conferences, and developing clear treatment goals
  • Proficiency in reviewing lab data, evaluating risks (falls, self-abuse, suicidality, assaultive behavior), and developing age-appropriate interventions
  • Safe and accurate medication administration skills (right patient, medication, dose, time, route) with knowledge of purposes, effects, documentation, and patient responses
  • Ability to transcribe medications accurately
  • Availability for full-time Monday-Friday 12pm-8:30pm shift with holiday rotation

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional nursing activities to help patients achieve or regain maximum physical, emotional, or social functions
  • Seek consultation with health team members as needed and provide patient information to Patient Accounts for compliance with statutes
  • Complete initial assessments, collect/record/analyze pertinent data within prescribed timeframes, and document according to hospital policy
  • Involve and obtain data from patient's support systems; observe and document patient interactions with family/friends
  • Act as patient advocate: explain rights, obtain consents/signatures, protect privacy/confidentiality, assist in orientation
  • Employ hospital policies for unit safety, conduct gown/contraband searches respectfully, and provide unit information sensitively
  • Initiate and update treatment plans; participate in planning/modifying care, care conferences, and represent nursing component
  • Develop/interpret treatment goals with patient/family; review/update as goals change
  • Ongoing: identify/interpret/document data from interviews, observations, assessments; confer with professionals; review lab data and follow up with doctor
  • Evaluate patient status changes (falls, self-abuse, suicidality, assault); document interventions
  • Implement patient care, including safe/correct medication administration, maintaining knowledge of meds, documenting responses, and accurate transcription
