Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil or mechanical engineering or related field (must be obtained/completed prior to start date)
  • At least 8 years of experience as a project engineer or job-related experience in a refinery, petro-chemical or other related heavy industry
  • Strong technical aptitude

  • Knowledge of refining equipment (piping stress, piping design, heaters, exchangers, vessels, rotating equipment, instrumentation, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the development, management, and completion of a wide range of engineering and construction projects, ensuring engineering packages are accurately and safely developed, and projects are completed within budget and schedule
  • Oversee all phases of engineering for team projects; check and approve all construction work packages and Management of Changes (MOCs); ensure designs incorporate current technology to maximize operations efficiency, quality, flexibility, safety, scheduling, and reliability while minimizing costs
  • Communicate expectations to personnel; evaluate individual performance, provide timely appraisals, offer leadership and development; handle personnel and department conflicts tactfully; resolve technical conflicts between specifications or departments; manage college co-ops
  • Distribute workloads strategically based on team members’ interests and strengths; ensure projects are funded and completed within budget year; develop team members in diverse areas (piping, fixed equipment, machinery, civil/structural) with focus on process and business needs
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and teamwork; interface with Operations, Products, Tech Service, Maintenance, and HES; participate in troubleshooting, job walks, and provide technical/business solutions; interface with Maintenance, Turnaround, and Operations for smooth progress
  • Support budgeting process by ensuring projects meet deadlines with accurate, timely data; meet regularly with project engineers/managers to review workload, obstacles, and manage project portfolio; assist in technical problem-solving and task prioritization to meet budgets
