Bachelor's degree in engineering from a program accredited by ABET, plus typically 4 or more years of related engineering experience
Or Master's degree in engineering from a program accredited by ABET, plus 2 years of related engineering experience
Or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET (may be considered for entry)
Acceptable alternative: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master’s degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico (encouraged and preferred)
Responsibilities
Perform advanced engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient, and economic manner
Exhibit advanced level proficiency and knowledge in a specialized technical area (e.g., system production, underground systems, extensive control systems, thermo-hydraulic control systems, distribution standards, fossil or nuclear plant operations) to serve as a company resource
Influence the direction of thinking throughout the organizational unit as a recognized authority in an area of expertise
Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities of others within work group, team, department, corporate entity, or external parties; assume role of project or function manager for assigned tasks
Develop, recommend, and implement plans including scheduling, resource, and cost information/control to address complex engineering problems involving internal and external entities
Identify, clarify, resolve, and initiate solutions to complex problems requiring multi-functional/organizational interfacing and/or multi-disciplined analytical techniques; develop opportunities and new ideas with system-wide impact
Lead preparation and presentation of complex technical subjects clearly, concisely, and persuasively to senior management, professional organizations, regulatory bodies, etc.; project credibility and competence with highly developed presentation skills
Build teams and networks extending through AEP, other companies, professional organizations, regulatory agencies, and academia
Make technical decisions based on calculated risks without management review; make decisions affecting long-range plans/goals based on analysis of highly uncertain input/outcomes; visualize long-term results; handle decisions with likely differences of opinion and cross-organizational impact
Demonstrate vision in identifying business opportunities for the organizational unit; understand how strategies/decisions impact relationships with customers and suppliers
