Oklo- Full Time
- Junior (1 to 2 years)
Candidates must hold an M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, and possess at least 15 years of experience in the design and development of power conversion systems, particularly within the nuclear or thermal power sectors. Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles related to steam cycles is required, along with understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards for nuclear power systems.
The Principal Engineer will design and develop the KP-FHR Power Generation System, focusing on steam cycle, turbine, condenser, and related auxiliary systems options to meet Kairos Power’s FHR deployment objectives, leading design trades, performance analyses, and optimization for maximum efficiency and output. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate the PGS with overall plant design and operations, manage external partners and vendors, prepare technical specifications and design documents, perform feasibility studies and risk assessments, mentor engineering team members, present findings to senior management, and support commissioning and troubleshooting during the plant’s startup phase. Additionally, the role involves staying current with industry advancements and performing other duties as assigned.
Designs and demonstrates advanced nuclear reactors
Kairos Power focuses on providing clean and affordable energy solutions through advanced nuclear reactor technology. Their main product, the Kairos Power Fluoride Salt-Cooled High-Temperature Reactor (KP-FHR), is designed to be cost-competitive with natural gas while maintaining a near-zero carbon footprint and low water usage. This technology is aimed at utility companies, government agencies, and private firms seeking sustainable energy options. Unlike many competitors, Kairos Power emphasizes the integrated design, licensing, and demonstration of their reactors to prove their safety and reliability. Their goal is to attract investments and partnerships to scale their technology and contribute to a cleaner energy future.
