Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of distribution construction and maintenance work practices
  • Technical knowledge/skill in engineering principles, hydraulic models, and system knowledge for natural gas distribution systems
  • Ability to build, utilize, and maintain hydraulic models
  • Proficiency in verifying hydraulic model performance using actual system flows/pressures and calibrating models with statistical regression analyses
  • Experience with gas flow equations and hydraulic software, including Synergi Gas by DNV
  • Knowledge of industry standards, guidelines, and regulations of federal, state, and local authorities

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, plan, and design natural gas distribution systems using engineering principles, hydraulic models, and system knowledge
  • Execute measurable results in system analysis and reliability, long range planning, and peak demand preparedness
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across engineering, operations, gas control, energy supply, electric system planning, clean technologies, sales, finance, regulatory, and compliance
  • Provide coordination and support on specific projects and cross-functional efforts, including leading teams and working with DIMP and Asset & Risk Management
  • Perform or assist in major/complex projects including design, procurement, installation, and testing of systems/devices for repairing, replacing, improving, or increasing physical assets
  • Build, utilize, and maintain hydraulic models to analyze and plan natural gas distribution systems
  • Verify hydraulic model performance using actual system flows/pressures and calibrate models using statistical regression analyses of market and large customer demands
  • Collaborate with gas control and supply services on capacity management and planning
  • Conduct feasibility studies to determine gas service requirements for existing and potential customers
  • Identify locations for isolation valves for optimum system control
  • Provide timely emergency support
  • Develop winter operations plans and SCADA alarm parameters
  • Recommend placement of pressure charts to identify and investigate potential deficiencies and optimize recommendations to maintain/enhance gas distribution infrastructure reliability
  • Develop long range plans for infrastructure replacement, load growth, and system optimization
  • Collaborate with Electric System Planning & Clean Technologies to analyze capacity with respect to integrated energy planning and non-pipeline alternatives
  • Foresee betterment needs and recommend system improvements
  • Develop, prioritize, and submit capital budget requests to address load growth, peak demand preparedness, and reliability
  • Provide information and analysis to support regulatory initiatives
  • Operate, maintain, and enhance computer hardware/software for accurate system analysis and integrate new technologies
  • Design systems or installations to fit company objectives with independent action, conforming to standards and regulations
  • Specify and procure materials/equipment, coordinate labor to install and test new installations
  • Develop and maintain procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and codes
  • Train junior staff and review their work
  • Oversee procurement of federal, state, and local permits and notifications
  • Provide technical and financial support to upper management for future needs and budget allocations
  • Support company mission, strategy, and values; provide direction or assistance in assignments; coordinate resources for projects
