About the Role

The Confluent Platform (CP) team's charter is continuously expanding. In this role, you will technically drive advancements within the CP Charter, ensuring the quality of deliverables through design and build. You will contribute to efficient release engineering, integrate the latest Kubernetes (K8S) ecosystem advancements into Confluent for Customer (CFK), and improve the management and monitoring of large-scale CP clusters in multi-geography deployments. Enhancing security to meet global data protection regulations and supporting on-call engineers to resolve customer issues within SLAs are key aspects of this position. This role requires exploring and experimenting with new customer-benefiting ideas, rather than simply following a list of requirements.

You will be a leading technologist within the CP organization, responsible for architecting and designing solutions, and reviewing design implementations and code. This position offers the opportunity to work across the full spectrum of technology within CP, balancing operational and engineering excellence with roadmap development, vision evolution, and strategic direction. Collaboration with other teams across Confluent is essential to realize the roadmap and vision.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers and architects to evolve the Confluent Platform.
• Work closely with product management, engineering leadership, and stakeholders across Confluent and Confluent Cloud to build and drive the roadmap.
• Serve as a strong technical advocate for CP within Confluent.
• Influence the overall health and operational hygiene of the Confluent Platform.
• Act as a technical champion for CP.
• Review code, designs, and improvements.
• Lead the technology charter for the Confluent Platform.
• Mentor a team of high-performing engineers and leads, fostering their skill development through hands-on experience and mentorship.
• Serve as a strong technical leader and representative for engineering teams in India.
• Provide timely and productive feedback, promote a growth mindset, and guide team members in setting and achieving personal development goals.
• Foster a culture of excellence through hiring, communication, execution, and work quality.
• Create and manage processes that enable the team to perform at its best.

Requirements

• Minimum of 15+ years of hands-on software development experience.
• Ability to anticipate future technical needs for the product and develop plans to meet them.
• Proven experience in taking ideas from concept to production.
• Willingness to actively participate in coding, debugging, designing, and any other necessary tasks to ship the product.
• Experience building and operating large-scale systems.
• Solid understanding of basic systems operations (disk, network, operating systems, etc.).
• Experience running production services in the cloud.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development.
