Requirements

  • Have 15 years of experience as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) or DevOps Engineer role
  • Have proven track record in technical leadership roles
  • Have deep experience with Database administration
  • Have experience with various database technologies including both SQL and no-SQL (e.g. Aurora, DynamoDB, MySQL, MongoDB, etc)
  • Have experience with cloud providers (e.g. AWS, OCI) and cloud infrastructure technologies e.g. Terraform, Kubernetes
  • Have with at least one programming language, in addition to scripting languages
  • Be flexible with a positive attitude to learn quickly in a dynamic and ambiguous environment, proactive, accountable, able to think creatively
  • Able to be available after hours or on weekends to guide deployments and incident responses when needed

Responsibilities

  • Guiding projects that deliver automation, improve monitoring, and level up our DBA teams’ ability to manage databases in both data centers and clouds at scale
  • Identifying opportunities for reducing costs, and drive them to completion by optimization. Through use of cloud resources, tuning databases, or working with partner teams to ensure optimal use of database technology
  • Standardizing our database stack and ensure consistent practices across all teams (e.g. standardize backup frequency and recovery test cadence)
  • Driving projects that improve our security posture for database assets
  • Influencing technical direction across teams (both inside and outside DevOps)
  • Communicating with partner teams and stakeholders, understand their needs, and define projects that meet their needs
  • Ensuring mature software development practices (code quality, testing, CI/CD, etc) within DBA teams
