Requirements

  • Functions as part of the hemodialysis health care team under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Compliance with FMCNA policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations
  • Knowledge of setup and operation of hemodialysis machines
  • Ability to maintain a safe and clean working environment
  • Support for Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities
  • Participation in recruitment, orientation, and training of clinical and facility staff
  • Competency in delivering and maintaining evaluations/audits for PCTs
  • Collaboration with Clinical Manager and Education Coordinator on quality standards, ESRD regulations, and CQI
  • Knowledge of facility water systems integrity and safety, and environmental maintenance
  • Ability to provide coaching, developmental support, and educational programs for staff
  • Skills in patient-specific education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Proficiency in vascular access evaluation, cannulation, and heparin administration as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Ability to initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatments per prescribed orders

Responsibilities

  • Participate in recruitment of new clinical staff
  • Assist with clinical orientation and ongoing training of direct patient care and facility staff
  • Function as preceptor in direct patient care training programs per FMS standards
  • Deliver and maintain competency evaluations/audits for other PCTs
  • Collaborate on driving quality standards through education on regulations and CQI
  • Train staff on applicable programs and provide coaching/developmental support
  • Partner with RN and IDT to educate on facility water systems and environmental integrity
  • Ensure strong communication on training and development programs
  • Implement/design educational programs for PCT staff (e.g., contests, team-based)
  • Collaborate on scheduling and implementing training programs
  • Monitor patient care processes through CQI activities
  • Incorporate FMS policies, procedures, and ethical practices into training
  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures, disease process, and access
  • Welcome patients, inquire about wellbeing, evaluate vascular access patency
  • Obtain pre/post treatment vital signs and weight
  • Perform vascular access cannulation and heparin administration as allowed
  • Initiate dialysis per orders (QB, QD), evaluate intradialytic problems, intervene as prescribed
  • Monitor patient response to therapy and obtain vital signs for treatment discontinuation
