Requirements

  • Functions as part of the dialysis health care team under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Complies with organization policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations
  • Ability to float to clinics in the Salt Lake Valley
  • Skills in setup and operation of hemodialysis machines
  • Knowledge of patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Ability to perform vascular access evaluation, cannulation, and heparin administration as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Competency in obtaining vital signs, weights, and performing pre/post dialysis evaluations
  • Ability to initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatments per prescribed orders
  • Skills in evaluating intradialytic problems, patient responses, and providing interventions
  • Knowledge of machine programming for UF goal, treatment time, UF modeling, and safety alarms (e.g., NVL 160)
  • Accurate documentation skills (Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes)
  • Ability to observe patients, conduct machine safety checks, and report changes to RN/supervisor
  • Skills in laboratory testing preparation, specimen collection, blood spill cleanup, and supply management
  • Participation in Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), CQI activities, and process improvements

Responsibilities

  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures and disease process/access
  • Welcome patients, inquire about wellbeing, and evaluate vascular access pre-treatment
  • Perform vascular access cannulation and heparin administration as allowed
  • Obtain pre/post treatment vital signs, weights, and vascular access evaluations
  • Initiate dialysis per orders (QB, QD), monitor patient response, and manage intradialytic issues
  • Obtain vital signs before reinfusion, discontinue treatment, evaluate patient (BP), achieve hemostasis, and apply dressings
  • Evaluate patient prior to discharge and record pre/post evaluations
  • Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis programming (UF goal, time, modeling)
  • Ensure safety alarms are enabled and record vital signs/treatment parameters accurately
  • Document all treatment information and report significant changes to RN/supervisor
  • Conduct machine safety checks, intervene for unusual patient status, and document responses
  • Monitor vascular access during treatment, provide interventions, and report findings
  • Obtain and prepare lab specimens, clean blood spills, and manage supplies efficiently
  • Monitor self-care patients under RN supervision
  • Assist in training of applicable staff (description cuts off)
