Requirements

Functions as part of the dialysis health care team under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
Complies with organization policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations
Ability to float to clinics in the Salt Lake Valley
Skills in setup and operation of hemodialysis machines
Knowledge of patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
Ability to perform vascular access evaluation, cannulation, and heparin administration as delegated or allowed by state law
Competency in obtaining vital signs, weights, and performing pre/post dialysis evaluations
Ability to initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatments per prescribed orders
Skills in evaluating intradialytic problems, patient responses, and providing interventions
Knowledge of machine programming for UF goal, treatment time, UF modeling, and safety alarms (e.g., NVL 160)
Accurate documentation skills (Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes)
Ability to observe patients, conduct machine safety checks, and report changes to RN/supervisor
Skills in laboratory testing preparation, specimen collection, blood spill cleanup, and supply management
Participation in Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), CQI activities, and process improvements

Responsibilities

Assist in patient education on adequacy measures and disease process/access
Welcome patients, inquire about wellbeing, and evaluate vascular access pre-treatment
Perform vascular access cannulation and heparin administration as allowed
Obtain pre/post treatment vital signs, weights, and vascular access evaluations
Initiate dialysis per orders (QB, QD), monitor patient response, and manage intradialytic issues
Obtain vital signs before reinfusion, discontinue treatment, evaluate patient (BP), achieve hemostasis, and apply dressings
Evaluate patient prior to discharge and record pre/post evaluations
Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis programming (UF goal, time, modeling)
Ensure safety alarms are enabled and record vital signs/treatment parameters accurately
Document all treatment information and report significant changes to RN/supervisor
Conduct machine safety checks, intervene for unusual patient status, and document responses
Monitor vascular access during treatment, provide interventions, and report findings
Obtain and prepare lab specimens, clean blood spills, and manage supplies efficiently
Monitor self-care patients under RN supervision
Assist in training of applicable staff (description cuts off)
