Requirements

Technical post-secondary degree in science or engineering, ideally in physics, mechanical/electrical engineering, mechatronics, or computers/software
Genuine drive to become a registered patent agent in Canada and motivated to quickly excel at patent drafting
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Quick to understand new concepts in familiar and unfamiliar technology domains
Consistently positive attitude and willingness to do whatever it takes to create robust solutions to mission objectives
Proponent of personal responsibility for self and teammates
Empathetic listener with conflict resolution capabilities
Consistent bias for action, communication, and interpersonal savvy

Responsibilities

Act as the IP Team's eyes and ears in Sanctuary’s fast-paced technology development environment to keep up to date with all technical accomplishments
Report back to the IP Team to collaboratively identify strategic patenting opportunities (Invention Mining)
Develop and hone patent drafting skills under experienced practitioners, maintaining at least one patent draft on the go (and 20 on deck), targeting ≥1 new draft per month across hardware, software, and applications
Prepare invention disclosure materials for overflow drafting contractors and review/approve their work product (Patent Preparation)
With IP Team support, prosecute existing portfolio and own drafts through to issuance, handling Missing Parts to PTAB appeals (Patent Prosecution)
Share diligent docket management, including data entry, document collection, and recordation (Patent Docket Management)
Support overall efficiency and effectiveness of the In-house IP Team
Own coordination of team project deliverables
Innovate best practices for continuous improvements in intellectual property protection
