Requirements

  • Excellent written and oral communication, attention to detail, and time management
  • Excellent computer skills (Windows), including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Teams applications, uploading/downloading from secure FTP sites, and online docketing systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently without significant supervision
  • Physical attendance at main office from time to time for records and meetings
  • Preference for experience with patent principles and terminology, patent and deadline docketing systems/concepts, and/or general legal office practice
  • Preference for prior patent administrative experience (not required, as training provided)
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with mathematical equations and organic (chemistry implied)

Responsibilities

  • Communicating with, managing, and maintaining records of physical and e-mail correspondence with outside patent providers, including US and foreign associates and translation providers
  • Maintaining patent records, including docketing of deadlines, organization of patent filings, and facilitating transition from existing to new docketing system
  • Following up with patent agents and inventors to ensure all patent deadlines are in hand and met
  • Formatting, proofreading, final review, and forwarding of patent filings, including new applications, responses to secure FTP sites, and providing filing/renewal instructions to outside patent providers
  • Receipt of and summarizing invoices for review and approval by patent agents
  • Ensure compliance with environmental policies, procedures, and objectives, and actively participate in identification and reduction of environmental impacts related to the role
  • Adhere to health and safety protocols, report hazards, and contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment
