Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of leadership roles (military, lead hand, supervisor or management experience)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Willing to work varied shifts and start times, including weekends
  • Ability to lead inside and outside workforce
  • Strong English communication skills, ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing, and over mobile radio devices
  • Comfortable using computers on a daily basis
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment and processing components (a definite asset)
  • Knowledge and awareness of construction and industrial sites

Responsibilities

  • Supervise hourly employees, including lead hands, operators, and laborers
  • Prepare team to operate safely while focusing on customer needs
  • Help meet and exceed daily processing goals
  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of the shredder and mobile equipment used to process yard material
  • Train and monitor employees
  • Assist in development and enforcement of the safety program
  • Supervise all yard personnel (equipment operators, maintenance crews, torch cutters, inspectors, and non-ferrous staff) by managing scheduling, task assignments, training, and performance evaluations
  • Maximize operational efficiency by optimizing freight utilization (trucks and railcars), creating production metrics, achieving daily processing goals, and overseeing shredder and mobile equipment operations
  • Enforce product quality standards to reduce downgrades and ensure compliance with Environmental, Safety, Health, and company policies and procedures
  • Lead safety initiatives: organize training, conduct and report daily safety observations, facilitate meetings, manage Enablon reporting, and maintain clean, hazard-free work areas
  • Identify and propose process, equipment, and personnel improvements with cost-justified recommendations for management approval
  • Manage timekeeping and payroll responsibilities, including approving vacation requests and ensuring accurate recording of employee hours
  • Monitor equipment functionality, oversee small repairs, and perform additional duties as assigned to support continuous yard operations
