Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with technical experience or technical associate's degree with 7+ years of experience
  • Prior leadership in a garage or lab setting
  • Deep experience with vehicle repair and garage safety protocol
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report review

Responsibilities

  • Implement and execute the established business plan for operations and foster teamwork and cooperation
  • Supervise a small group of technicians with varying responsibilities
  • Manage the maintenance and repair of department equipment and vehicles using standard GM maintenance systems
  • Manage repairs and maintenance to fleet vehicles
  • Provide leadership for other technical services provided by the team
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with employees, union, management, and other building tenants
  • Understand and consistently act according to the National and Local Agreements between General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union
  • Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health, safety, and housekeeping
  • Motivate, train, and develop employees to perform their jobs utilizing standardized methods with increasing effectiveness
  • Ensure team members receive adequate JIT (job instruction training)
  • Effectively utilize resources to ensure customer requests are completed in a timely manner
  • Conduct appropriate checks and tests, and monitor results for improvement
  • Coach employees utilizing common tools and formats for a represented setting
  • Recommend solutions to problems and assist employees in implementing them
  • Ensure preventative maintenance on-time completion and accuracy
  • Implement GMS principles and ensure active team participation
  • Maintain frequent contact and collaboration with others outside the work group, act as a liaison for other teams, and ensure smooth relations and adherence to safety guidelines
