Requirements

Candidates must possess an active special education license and practical experience working with diverse student populations in educational settings. Proficiency in systematic phonics-based programs like Orton Gillingham or Wilson is preferred, along with hands-on tutoring experience in reading and writing. The role requires the ability to differentiate reading strategies, an understanding of neuropsychological principles in education, and strong communication skills. Tech-savviness, experience with tele-health services, a private workspace with reliable internet and equipment, and availability during traditional school hours (10 hours per week minimum) are also necessary. Fluency in additional languages is a plus.

Responsibilities

The Specialized Instruction Educator will provide remote special education support, including compensatory education services, to suspended or expelled students. Responsibilities include developing and implementing individualized lesson plans to improve reading and writing skills, creating and managing IEPs, and providing case management. The educator will also collaborate with families to tailor services, conduct screenings and progress monitoring, educate families on learning support strategies, and maintain accurate session documentation.
