Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License
  • For Associate: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of related utility industry work experience; or Associate's Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields
  • For Technician: Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields plus 2 years of related utility industry work experience; or high school diploma or equivalent and 4 years of related utility industry work experience
  • For Senior: Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields with minimum 4 years of related utility industry work experience; or high school diploma or GED with minimum 6 years of related utility industry work experience, including experience in technical engineering knowledge projects; meets expectations of Technician level
  • Ability to walk rights-of-way of various terrain in adverse conditions to patrol distribution power lines
  • Ability to carry and handle telescopic measuring sticks and switching sticks weighing 11 pounds
  • Ability to use a brush axe (approx. 6 pounds) or machete (approx. 2 pounds)

Responsibilities

  • Perform entry-level technical work associated with planning, engineering, design, analysis, research, development, testing, construction, maintenance, and operation of company equipment and facilities
  • Possess and gain technical knowledge from Associate Degree in relevant engineering technology fields, standards, codes, regulations, equipment, materials, systems, and business processes
  • Assist employees in handling defined portions of routine problems
  • Demonstrate basic computer literacy, knowledge, and skills
  • Perform work activities as assigned and coached by higher-level employees
  • Work with others to supply information and seek assistance
  • Plan work in accordance with AEP standard planning practices and prioritize routine work
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Apply technical knowledge and experience to resolve problems in assigned work
  • Use initiative to improve processes and increase job knowledge/technical skills
  • Seek out, compile, analyze, and interpret information to perform work and solve problems
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal/external customers
  • Assist in preparation of technical reports and papers
  • Demonstrate team player abilities and relate to people openly, friendly, and sincerely
