Candidates must possess a Department of Transportation (DOT) certification, a Class A or Class B driver’s license, and Diesel Mechanic Certification, along with formal training in heavy equipment repair and maintenance. Proficiency in understanding and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other heavy equipment components is required, as is the ability to diagnose issues quickly and accurately. The ability to lift heavy parts and equipment and work in physically demanding environments is also necessary.
The Mobile Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for repairing and maintaining machinery, including forestry-related equipment, hydraulics, and mobile mechanical equipment, by testing equipment, analyzing malfunctions, and using manual and electrical tools to fix broken parts. They will assemble gear systems, fit bearings, weld broken parts, fabricate parts from sheet metal, keep machines clean and functioning up to industry standards, transport equipment as needed, work with vendors to understand warranty standards and specifications, measure effectiveness in establishing appropriate reporting and control procedures, operate efficiently at the lowest cost, stay within established budgets, maintain and update inventory of spare parts and tools, and adhere to company policies and safety guidelines.
