Candidates must possess a valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with a Chief Engineer STCW 3,000 KW/4,000 HP or more (unlimited) endorsement, STCW Basic Training, and OICEW. A valid TWIC, USCG STCW Medical Certificate, and passport are also required. Proficiency in maritime engineering systems, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Candidates must pass a background check and USCG/DOT drug testing. Eligibility for security clearance is preferred. A Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering or a similar field, familiarity with jet-drive marine engines, experience with autonomous or unmanned systems, software engineering experience, and prior work with the DoD or government agencies are desired qualifications. The role requires up to 50% travel and a projected rotation of 28/28.
The Chief Engineer will be responsible for the operation of the engine room and all associated machinery, ensuring the proper functioning of marine systems including main propulsion, auxiliary machinery, fuel oil, lubrication, and cooling systems. This includes completing all necessary maintenance on vessel machinery, overseeing engine room operations, and being on-call while the vessel is underway to address any issues. Responsibilities also include managing the inventory and ordering of spare parts, participating in the creation of a planned maintenance schedule, and assisting in the shipboard execution of mission objectives.
