Responsibilities

  • Participate in a 4-year Mechanical Engineering Level 6 Higher Degree Apprenticeship to achieve BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, studying one day per week at the University of Hertfordshire
  • Complete rotational placements across Mechanical Engineering departments, including Mechanical Design, Mechanical Future Concepts, Actuation Systems, Mechanical Analysis, Materials and Processes, and Environmental Engineering
  • Gain exposure to all aspects of the product life-cycle, from early development and research to in-service support
  • Develop and support mechanical aspects of missile system hardware, including airframe structures and ground support equipment
  • Learn computer-aided concept design, simulation, and modelling using tools such as Creo Parametric, Altair, HyperMesh, and Ansys
  • Understand material properties and key engineering design and analysis skills
  • Work in multi-functional project teams with colleagues from areas like Electronic & Environmental Engineering
  • Progress from basic tasks to more complex projects in an autonomous environment with guidance from technical specialists
  • In years 3-4, select placements from a defined list or complete an external placement
  • Complete an individual research project in the fourth year, potentially industry-sponsored with MBDA
