Position Overview

Velo3D is seeking a motivated Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in our manufacturing facility in Fremont, CA. In this role, you will drive continuous improvement, resolve manufacturing issues, and ensure product reliability and quality throughout the product lifecycles. You will also influence all aspects of the production process flow, from new product development, subsystem assembly at local and global contract manufacturers, to system assembly and integration testing.

The ideal candidate works well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, has a “take-charge,” “can-do” attitude, and can demonstrate flexibility and resiliency. The ability to collaborate cross-functionally and have hands-on experience with building, assessing, and executing complex assembly iterations is essential.

Essential Functions

  • Work in collaboration with hardware, software, process, applications engineering, production team (manufacturing), quality, and supply chain on DFX (Design for Excellence) and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work on initiatives such as Process Improvement, End of Life, PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), and Root Cause Analysis on non-conformances.
  • Develop, document, and deploy unit tests for mechanical, electrical, and optical components and subsystems.
  • Collaborate with quality to support compliance with standards (ISO9000, AS9100).
  • Propose and deliver continuous improvement projects (CIP) using 5S and Lean principles to improve product quality, decrease cost, and reduce cycle times.
  • Guide new product introduction to manufacturing from prototype through pilot and production release.
  • Create and update assembly and testing documentation, drawings, etc.
  • Create, support, and review ECOs (Engineering Change Orders) and follow through the CCB (Change Control Board) process to closure.
  • Be involved with MRB (Material Review Board) activities and disposition of discrepant material.

Qualifications

  • B.A./B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a hardware engineering field required.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience working as a Manufacturing Engineer in a Capital Equipment Manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity utilizing CAD systems and providing DFX for various mechanical and electrical designs, including modeling and drawing creation with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Experience through the full product lifecycle, from concept through production, including familiarity with PLM.
  • Hands-on experience with building and assembly.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and optical assemblies and systems.
  • Able to write manufacturing and test procedures.
  • Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot electrical systems by tracing a signal from start to finish through multiple cables, sensors, etc., using a Digital Multi-Meter and other electronic test equipment/tools.
  • Knowledge of sensors (pressure transducers, oxygen sensors, VFDs, etc.).
  • Mechanical tool use such as drills, taps, etc.
