Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (±16 years) in engineering, science, or closely related discipline, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Experience in automated test system design for manufacturing
  • Advanced scientific knowledge, engineering knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity
  • Full knowledge of other related disciplines beyond their own

Responsibilities

  • Identify, plan, and conduct medium-size technical projects across engineering disciplines, requiring custom, risk-managed execution plans, investigations, and/or equipment
  • Translate automation requirements into new solutions
  • Identify, develop, and communicate product, process, and equipment requirements to automation equipment suppliers
  • Identify process and equipment solutions to drive equipment performance, including increased up-time, faster equipment speeds, lower process scrap, and higher process through-put
  • Drive process improvement efforts on automation equipment
  • Identify opportunities to improve process capability and process robustness
  • Detect and isolate sources of variation and perform root cause analysis on automated processes
  • Propose and implement process and automation improvements to drive consistency, eliminate scrap, reduce re-work, increase equipment uptime, and improve overall process performance
  • Advance technical and functional area expertise and identify new technologies and techniques to drive advancement of processes
  • Recommend improvements to Engineering policies and procedures
  • Perform economic analysis and feasibility studies to inform decision-making about competing alternatives
  • Take ownership for achieving financial targets with clear understanding and focus on life cycle costs
  • Conduct internal and external benchmarking to inform strategic planning and continuous improvement
  • Design experiments by gathering data from a variety of sources and conduct detailed analysis to answer strategic business and engineering questions
  • Explore multiple alternatives, integrating regulatory and operational needs and cost benefit analyses to design and implement complete solutions to complex problems
  • Ensure quality and effectiveness of key results of major processes within function through sound design, early risk assessments, and implementation of mitigation strategies
  • Maintain awareness of the potential consequences (defects and failure modes) of design changes to established processes
  • Share knowledge and technical expertise with other teams/divisions
  • Act as the prime technical contact on contracts
  • Interact with senior management and external stakeholders on significant technical matters
  • Communicate effectively using a variety of formal and informal media to a diversity of stakeholders at different levels of the organization
  • Cultivate open, honest relationships with colleagues, contractors, leadership, vendors, and other stakeholders by developing an understanding of others’ needs, promoting common goals, and following through on commitments
  • Comply with all regulations and standards for quality, Environmental, Health, Safety, and Energy (EHS&E) Global Policies, Abbott Engineering Standards, and other governance areas as applicable
