Candidates must possess an active special education license in Maine and have practical experience working with diverse student populations. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of systematic phonics-based programs like Orton Gillingham or Wilson, hands-on tutoring experience in reading and writing, the ability to differentiate reading strategies, and an understanding of neuropsychological principles in education. Effective communication skills, tech-savviness with tele-health platforms, a private workspace with reliable internet, and availability during traditional school hours are also required. Fluency in additional languages is a plus.

Responsibilities

The Specialized Instruction Educator will provide remote special education support to students, deliver compensatory education services, and develop/implement individualized lesson plans focusing on reading and writing skills. Responsibilities also include creating and managing IEPs, providing case management, collaborating with families, conducting screenings and progress monitoring, educating families on support strategies, and maintaining accurate session documentation.
