Machine Learning Data Scientist - Women's Health

Salary: $142,000 Employment Type: Full-time Location Type: Remote (US)

Position Overview

At Oura, our mission is to empower every person to own their inner potential. With our award-winning Oura Ring and app, we help over 2.5 million people turn insights about sleep, activity, and readiness into healthier, more balanced lives. We believe that starts from within — by creating a culture where our team feels supported, included, and inspired to do their best work. Our values guide how we show up for each other and our community every day.

We are looking for a Machine Learning Data Scientist to join our Women’s Health team, playing a pivotal role in developing and commercializing novel machine learning models and algorithms that leverage wearable health data to improve women’s health outcomes. This role is ideal for an experienced ML expert who has expertise working with health data, is proactive, thrives in ambiguous problem spaces, and brings a balance of hands-on technical depth and strategic thinking.

This is a remote US role with a slight preference for candidates based in San Francisco, CA. We have offices in San Francisco and San Diego for those who prefer hybrid or office settings and employee hubs, including New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, Seattle, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Build and deploy machine learning pipelines and models for Women’s Health features.
  • Work closely with a cross-functional team of scientists, product managers, software developers, product designers, test engineers, etc., to commercialize new features and bring value to our members.
  • Deliver robust statistical analyses of machine learning models and algorithms for model performance evaluation, monitoring, and for drawing insights to support product decisions.
  • Conduct early-stage exploratory research to identify and characterize new potential health sensing features and functionality.
  • Develop proof-of-concept features and work with a cross-functional team to take these from POC to a commercialized product.

Requirements

  • PhD in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, biostatistics, computer science, or a related field, OR a Master’s degree in related fields with 3+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Healthcare or health tech experience is preferred.
  • 3+ years of solid programming skills in Python and SQL.
  • Experience with multiple machine learning and statistical modeling approaches.
  • Strong understanding of probability and statistics.
  • Experience developing and validating time-series algorithms.
  • Self-driven, motivated, with a pragmatic can-do attitude and delivery-focused mindset; ability to move quickly and prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to summarize and clearly articulate work and thinking processes to both technical and non-technical team members.
  • Comfortable working with a diverse and talented group of team members residing throughout the globe.
  • Ability to accommodate weekly off-hour meetings with European colleagues.
  • Willingness to travel for onsite meetings up to 3 times per year.

Benefits

At Oura, we care about you and your well-being. Everyone here at Oura has a ring of their own, and we are continually looking to improve employee health.

  • Competitive salary and equity packages.
  • Health, dental, vision insurance, and mental health resources.
  • An Oura Ring of your own plus employee discounts for friends & family.
  • 20 days of paid time off plus 13 paid holidays plus 8 days of flexible wellness time off.
  • Paid sick leave and parental leave.
