Position Overview

The Buy Side from WSJ is seeking an ambitious and energetic journalist for its loans team. This role is dedicated to helping consumers make smart decisions about how to spend their time and money by providing data-driven articles about loan options that can help consumers reach their financial goals. The Loans Writer will ensure articles meet high journalistic standards while responsibly guiding readers through decisions about borrowing money.

Responsibilities

  • Write articles on loan topics relevant to WSJ subscribers, focusing on auto, personal, student, and business loans.
  • Ensure articles are accurate, interesting, relevant, and distinctive, breaking down complex topics for consumers.
  • Ensure appropriate sources and sourcing for all topics covered.
  • Collaborate with editorial and commerce teams on article lineups to ensure relevance for the WSJ audience.
  • Understand the WSJ.com audience to ensure articles effectively serve reader needs.
  • Work proactively with partners to provide useful service to readers.
  • Write polished, clear prose that balances sensitivity with expertise.
  • Work well under pressure and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Be meticulous in copy and ambitious in reporting, ensuring accuracy and depth.
  • Recommend linking opportunities to recent WSJ news articles where topics align.
  • Ensure accuracy and adherence to journalistic standards for all content.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of reporting or personal finance content writing experience.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while delivering quality content.
  • Fluency in consumer finance and loan topics.
  • A track record of writing unique, engaging financial stories.
  • A knack for finding unique angles off the news.
  • Familiarity with affiliate revenue operations and search engine optimization is preferred.
  • Experience reporting on student loans, auto loans, personal loans, and business loans.
