Requirements

  • Degree in law (LLB) from a recognized university
  • Relevant professional qualification
  • High standing member of their home country bar association
  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ relevant experience in a similar organization with three (3) years at a supervisory level
  • Experience working in a reputable firm or in-house position with a demonstrated record of success in the given area
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in corporate, commercial, and key legal and regulatory considerations relevant to Africa
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to articulate information to a variety of constituents across cultures
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Mastercard Foundation’s values and vision

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal support on projects/programs in Uganda
  • Provide post-contracting legal support and other transactions related to the Foundation’s operations in Uganda
  • Participate in various projects as legal support for the Foundation in Uganda
  • Assist in conducting due diligence for various projects in Uganda
  • Proactively identify, analyze, and respond to legislative developments that affect the Foundation in Uganda
  • Provide support in policy discussions and negotiations with officials internally and externally, developing relationships with members of the legal profession and lawyers working in external law firms and/or partner agencies in Uganda
  • Champion a values-based compliance culture as the organization evolves
  • Collaborate with Legal and Compliance Team to maintain and upgrade legal documentation
  • Support the continuous improvement of legal processes and procedures
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Coordinate legal support with external counsel and address legal operational needs in Uganda
  • Review and advise on host country agreements and, where relevant, program contracts
