High school diploma or GED preferred
Basic reading and mathematical skills
Some mechanical skills from experience with manufacturing or construction processes, including reading a tape measure and using power and hand tools
Ability to stand continuously with occasional walking and sitting
Ability to perform physical activities including pushing, pulling, lifting/carrying heavy objects (60–100 lb), climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending, and handling
Ability to perform repetitive motions and awkward body positioning
Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus
Ability to work near moving mechanical parts and machinery, in all environmental conditions (inside/outside), with exposure to fumes, airborne particulates, electric shock, burn hazards (UV light, flames, sparks), and high noise levels requiring hearing protection
Compliance with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment (PPE) at all times

Responsibilities

Fabricate, erect, and dismantle structural steel bridge framework according to engineered drawings and blueprints
Set up hoisting equipment, raising and placing structural-steel members, with basic rigging knowledge
Fasten steel members to the cable of hoist, using chain, cable or rope
Signal worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel members
Guide member using tag line to position it
Pull, push, or pry steel members into approximate position while supported by hoisting device
Force members into final position using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, and hand tools
Align bolt holes in steel members using drift pins or spud wrenches
Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of members using plumb bob and level
Bolt aligned members to keep them in position until permanently bolted or welded
Cut and weld steel members to make alterations using oxyacetylene welding equipment and supplies
Load, transport, unload material, tools, equipment, and supplies
Lift, position, and secure materials and work pieces during installation
Perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment
Observe and comply with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment
Perform other duties as required
