Position Overview

The Manager, Inventory Control is a leadership role within the Finance and Supply Chain functions, responsible for managing inventory and driving continuous improvement across the organization. This role collaborates cross-functionally to safeguard company assets, improve processes, and achieve key inventory metrics. The Manager is a people leader, focused on building and developing a high-performing team that models US Foods’ Cultural Beliefs and leadership behaviors.

Responsibilities

  • Labor Management: Plan and schedule inventory control staff to ensure timely completion of activities, effective utilization of personnel, and prioritization of ad hoc requests in cooperation with warehouse operations.
  • Associate Development: Attract, develop, and lead a skilled and motivated team, fostering accountability through clear expectations and performance metrics. Discuss Inventory Clerk performance with Area Directors and Finance, creating plans to address gaps.
  • Continuous Improvement: Apply root cause analysis to identify improvement opportunities and develop/implement best practices. Measure the impact and ROI of improvement initiatives.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve root causes of inventory losses, implementing preventive measures. Analyze and report on Inventory Adjustments weekly, focusing on trends and key variables.
  • Vendor Packaging Reclamation: Manage the reclamation process for vendor packaging issues, collaborating with buyers for billbacks and/or on-site repackaging. Analyze data for trends.
  • Suspense Inventory Management: Oversee inventory placed into suspense (e.g., Fresh to Frozen, recall, damage) and partner with stakeholders for timely resolution.
  • Customer Credits: Review and approve customer credit requests, determining root causes for process improvement and preventing duplication.
  • SOX Compliance: Perform controls such as Inventory report review, open delivery route aging and reconciliation reports, and ensure 100% quarterly cycle count completion.
  • Safety Leadership: Champion safety procedures, processes, and training to foster a safety-first culture, ensuring associates remain injury-free.
  • Team Engagement & Efficiency: Drive associate engagement and retention, creating a culture that embodies US Foods values. Maintain open communication and direct the workforce for efficient workflow.
  • Team Building: Review staffing requirements, monitor interviewing and hiring of inventory personnel. Coach to achieve productivity and safety targets, and deliver disciplinary action as needed.
  • Waste Identification: Identify and stop waste by improving processes for safer and more efficient work completion.
  • Key Results Accountability: Collaborate with Operations, Replenishment, Sales, and Merchandising to achieve Inventory Adjustment results and other key outcomes.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

Supervision

  • Manages up to 9 employees, depending on market size and complexity.

Relationships

  • Internal: Works closely across all functions including Operations, Replenishment, Category Management, Finance, and Legal.
