Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher in medical laboratory sciences in histopathology or equivalent
  • HT(ASCP) certification required
  • 2-5 years of experience
  • Experience working with an LIS and Google Suite
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, computer, troubleshooting skills
  • Word processing and data management skills
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand motions for FFPE preparation
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time
  • Availability to work weekends (Wed-Sun schedule, first shift 6:00 AM-2:30 PM)

Responsibilities

  • Perform histological preparations for tissue whole exome sequencing laboratory with little to no errors (e.g., preparation of tissues, stained slides, microdissection, supporting workflow tasks)
  • Follow Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and maintain clean and organized workspace
  • Recognize and escalate equipment or LIS malfunctions; troubleshoot common errors
  • Recognize, document, and escalate protocol deviations to lab management
  • Maintain equipment and instruments in good operating condition
  • Communicate with team and other departments
  • Provide feedback on workflow to lab management and offer suggestions/ideas for improvement
  • Assist teammates in completing daily tasks
  • Adhere to departmental procedures
  • Work with PHI in paper and electronic form; complete HIPAA/PHI privacy, compliance, security, and other EDMS training within 30 days of hire
  • Ensure timely completion of continuing education units
  • Perform other duties as assigned
