Advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems for heavy equipment and vehicles
Knowledge of vehicle body control systems, including hydraulics and electrical systems
Knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems for diagnosing and repairing complex systems
Knowledge of welding tools for fixing heavy equipment
Ability to perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance functions on-site and on the road
Ability to road test vehicles to determine necessary repairs
Experience supervising technicians, including coaching, counseling, training, performance evaluations, hiring/termination decisions, and recommendations for merit increases, promotions, and job changes
Responsibilities
Supervise technician team (A, B, C level, and lead technicians) for preventive maintenance/repair of fleet (trucks - diesel and alternate fuel), post-collection facility machinery, container shop equipment, and other heavy-duty equipment, ensuring compliance with company safety/compliance standards and federal/state regulations
Plan and schedule repair work to ensure safe and timely completion, reducing lost productivity
Provide direction to technicians to perform all repairs/maintenance safely, efficiently, and timely
Monitor operational performance and efficiency; redirect activities and report to management with recommendations for process/programmatic improvements
Make hiring/termination decisions in concert with HR and management; conduct employee training and performance evaluations; evaluate/recommend merit increases, promotions, job changes
Perform inspections of outside repairs to ensure compliance with company procedures and regulations; follow up as needed
Identify training opportunities, document issues, and discuss corrective actions with technicians
Conduct Quality Control Inspections, track issues/resolutions for compliance
Oversee repair diagnostics on complex matters, provide coaching, and road test vehicles if required
Oversee maintenance shop inventory control to maintain equipment/parts levels and stay within budget; review/approve expenses within approval level; refer larger ones to manager
Manage administrative matters: payroll, employee records, records of preventive/corrective maintenance in Dossier Maintenance Software, prepare/submit budgets, set departmental goals aligned with targets/performance objectives
