Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems for heavy equipment and vehicles
  • Knowledge of vehicle body control systems, including hydraulics and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems for diagnosis and repair
  • Knowledge of welding tools to fix heavy equipment

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction to technicians and lead technicians (and manage Fleet Maintenance Supervisor(s)) to ensure repairs and maintenance are performed safely, efficiently, and timely
  • Oversee planning and scheduling of repair work to increase productivity and manage overtime
  • Monitor shop operational performance and efficiency, redirect activities as needed, report to management, and implement procedures for improvements
  • Manage lead technicians and maintenance supervisor(s), including daily shop huddles, fleet walks, coaching, counseling, hiring, termination, training, performance evaluations, and recommendations for merit increases, promotions, or job changes
  • Maintain an ongoing preventive maintenance program, identify trends in road calls and breakdowns, oversee facility maintenance, and control costs related to personnel, purchasing, inventory, and outsourcing
  • Manage outside repair facilities to ensure work complies with company safety procedures and federal/state regulations, follow up as needed, identify training opportunities, and discuss corrective actions
  • Conduct Quality Control Inspections, track issues and resolutions to ensure compliance with company safety procedures and federal/state regulations
  • Manage fleet equipment (up to 60 diesel/alternative fuel vehicles), post-collection facility equipment/machinery, and container shop(s) in compliance with safety, maintenance standards, and regulations
  • Plan and schedule repair work to ensure safe, timely completion and reduce lost productivity
