Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic and electrical systems of heavy equipment and vehicles
  • Advanced engine chassis repair and maintenance expertise
  • Advanced knowledge of vehicle body control systems, including hydraulics and electrical systems
  • Advanced knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems for diagnosis and repair
  • Advanced knowledge of welding tools for heavy equipment repairs

Responsibilities

  • Oversee up to 5+ maintenance shops and manage multiple teams of technicians, maintenance supervisors, and/or other maintenance managers for preventive maintenance and repair of 91+ trucks (diesel and alternate fuel), machinery, supporting 3 post-collection facilities and 3 container shops
  • Provide direction to on-site technicians and technician supervisors, and leadership to maintenance supervisors or managers, ensuring safe, efficient, and timely repair/maintenance work; reallocate resources among sites as needed
  • Oversee coordination, planning, and scheduling of all repair work to increase productivity while managing department overtime
  • Monitor shops' operational performance and efficiency; redirect activities, report to management on performance, and implement procedures for process/programmatic improvements
  • Oversee daily shop huddles, fleet walk-arounds; coach and counsel lead technicians and maintenance supervisors on performance and corrective action; make hiring/termination decisions with HR and management; oversee employee training and performance evaluations
  • Maintain an ongoing preventive maintenance program for all shops; identify trends in road calls and breakdowns; oversee maintenance of buildings and facilities; control costs related to personnel, purchasing, inventory, and outsourcing
  • Perform inspections of outside repairs and maintenance to ensure compliance with company safety procedures and federal/state regulations; follow up, identify training opportunities, document issues, and discuss corrective actions
  • Accountable for scheduled Quality Control Inspections; track issues and resolutions to ensure compliance
  • Manage related management and administrative matters, including payroll and maintenance of employee records, records of preventive and corrective maintenance
