Position Overview

We are seeking an Engineer to join our Unity Lab Services Chromatography Service group. This is a dedicated field-based role supporting our customers on-site with a wide product range, primarily focusing on Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Mass Spectroscopy (MS) Instruments. Your main responsibilities will include performing Preventive Maintenance, Installations, and Service repairs within the Clinical Service Team to achieve the highest levels of customer satisfaction, accurate and timely maintenance and qualification visits, and the lowest repeated call rates post-maintenance. You will be part of a dedicated Service team, providing marked-leading on-site services that exceed customer expectations.

Our Organization

This role is within our Unity Lab Service (ULS) organization, which offers a single source for integrated lab service, support, and supply management. ULS provides customized service offerings and outstanding services with the flexibility and experience to uniquely address customer business needs, from single instrument service to managing entire labs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site installations, repairs, maintenance, qualifications, and validations.
  • Engage with customers and collaborate with other ULS teams and Sales.
  • Utilize customer management software to review service calls, manage parts inventories, and complete job tasks.
  • Listen to customers, review their documents, and inspect instruments to diagnose and resolve problems.
  • Analyze and review inspection findings to determine the source of issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions (repair, replacement, etc.).
  • Analyze system chemistry and use instrument reports to diagnose technical or application problems.
  • Collaborate with specialists, engineering, customer service, and other personnel to expedite repairs and ensure quick resolution.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication between the customer and the company to ensure high-quality service.
  • Provide customers with familiarization instruction on the accurate use and maintenance of their instruments.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems on mechanical and optical instrumentation in a clinical laboratory environment.
  • Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and analyzing component layout drawings, schematics, assembly drawings, and wiring and labeling diagrams.
  • Basic instructional abilities for customer familiarization.
  • Skill in prioritizing clinical customer requirements and establishing realistic schedules.
  • Ability to produce clear, detailed, and concise documentation and customer reports.
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a group to achieve objectives and resolve customer concerns.

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and availability for overnight travel up to 50% within the territory (Cleveland, OH to Pittsburgh, PA).
  • Provide service support to key clinical customer sites, primarily in Pittsburgh and Cleveland.

Minimum Education and/or Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences, Engineering, Electronics, or equivalent work experience.
