Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; University degree in electronics, physics, engineering, computer science or similar field preferred
  • Minimum 4+ years of hands-on technical experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating sophisticated analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar systems
  • Detailed understanding and extensive experience diagnosing and repairing ultra-high vacuum and high voltage systems
  • Ability to deal effectively with customers
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; professional working proficiency in English
  • Consistent record of fixing sophisticated systems and subsystems down to the component level
  • Literate in MS DOS and Windows software environments
  • Able to read and interpret schematics
  • Familiar with UHV phenomenon and technology
  • Ability to acquire a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Willing to travel 25-50% of the time
  • Willing to work overtime, including weekends and last-minute schedule changes
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Able to work in environmental conditions: lift 40 lbs. without assistance, cleanroom restrictions (no hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, facial hair), fluctuating temperatures, laboratory setting, PPE required, various outside weather conditions, work with hazardous/toxic materials

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site installation of sophisticated equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure accurate working order
  • Conduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits
  • Provide diagnosis and repair support for customers and other field personnel
  • Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users, and company personnel
  • Travel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems or support other field service personnel
  • Complete and submit field service reports
  • Provide training to customers and users on system maintenance
  • Provide feedback to product quality teams
  • Provide appropriate input in writing updating and correcting various Thermo Fisher system documentation
  • Provide guidance for various reports including identifying and isolating outstanding problems with the system
  • Act as a subject expert and resource for training
