Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience in a wide variety of experiential media, including adventure-based and environmental activities, sports, dance, group initiatives, arts/crafts, music, outdoor activities, art media, psychodrama, horticulture, ropes and challenge course
  • Working knowledge of psychosocial functioning of patient/resident groups and application of expressive activities within a psychiatric setting
  • Ability to develop, plan, implement, facilitate, direct, and evaluate experiential therapy programming in specialized treatment areas
  • Knowledgeable, skillful, and able in experiential therapies supported in multiple disciplines (Outdoor Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, and/or Recreation Therapy)
  • Understanding of Rogers Improvement System (ROS) process and ability to apply it to department functions
  • Understanding of Joint Commission and other regulatory agency compliance guidelines relevant to Experiential Therapy
  • Knowledge of intervention strategies, de-escalation techniques, and least-restrictive measures for patient/resident safety
  • Knowledge of common diagnostic categories, their relationship to patient/resident behavior, treatment procedures/models (behavioral, recovery, etc.), and application in a therapy setting
  • Compliance with all educational requirements and obligations pertaining to program/unit license and regulatory requirements
  • Completion of all required orientation competencies and training within the Experiential Therapy department and Rogers

Responsibilities

  • Conduct self in a professional manner, promote positive team-oriented approach, maintain supportive and collaborative environment, display leadership and positive role-modeling, demonstrate courteous and respectful demeanor, resolve issues positively with focus on solutions, identify concerns and provide input for resolution
  • Comply with Rogers Memorial Hospital policies and procedures (Infection Control, Safety, Employee Health, Human Resources, Experiential Therapy)
  • Participate in training new employees as directed by the leader
  • Participate in Rogers Improvement System (OS), identify ROS concerns, demonstrate understanding of ROS process and apply to department functions
  • Involve self in learning and application of Joint Commission and regulatory standards relevant to Experiential Therapy, attend informational meetings
  • Conduct experiential therapy as scheduled, evaluate, plan, and coordinate programming to meet patients’/residents’ needs
  • Maintain Experiential Therapy environments for safety and supplies, be flexible with work assignments including schedule changes and program additions
  • Complete treatment plans and evaluations according to Rogers policy
  • Complete therapeutic documentation according to Rogers policy
  • Demonstrate knowledge of intervention strategies, utilize redirection, monitor patient/resident behavior, safely intervene using de-escalation and least-restrictive measures, establish therapeutic rapport while maintaining professional relationships
  • Demonstrate knowledge of psychosocial functioning, diagnostic categories, and treatment models for each patient/resident group
  • Attend all mandatory in-services, relevant in-services, Experiential Therapy department and program staff meetings
  • Be responsible for all educational requirements related to license and regulatory obligations
