Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in a technical, engineering, or industrial design field (or 7 years footwear experience if no degree)
  • 5 years footwear experience in a footwear engineering discipline or product creation with a global brand
  • Some understanding of the principles of pattern engineering
  • Good communication skills (persuading/proving/listening/presenting)
  • Good management skills (time/people/relationship)
  • A good learner and proactive in providing ideas/reports to manager
  • Good problem-solving skills, result-oriented, and cooperative with factory to find root cause of issues
  • Good coaching skills, a good instructor

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for upper and tooling engineering coordination of new footwear products, working with developers from receipt of tech package through bulk sample review, commercialization, and into production
  • Maintain connectivity with the product through the initial production phase and initiate QC standards
  • Support the Asia product creation process from bulk sample review onwards, learning from the Commercialization team
  • Support the product development team during initial stages, working with factory pattern and tooling engineers to convert design renderings into successful, profitable commercialized products, including with local last makers for new last development
  • Review blueprints, drawings, wooden models, and upper patterns to ensure accuracy, functionality, mold details, and design integrity, in cooperation with Asia Development Team
  • Demonstrate awareness and engage in all phases of the Columbia product process
  • Support development team to ensure projects are proven, tested, completed on time, manufacturable, meet design intent, performance, costing, and sustainability goals
  • Take principal commercialization role from T1 through T4 stages into full-scale manufacturing, keeping Asian and Portland teams updated, confirming SOP for mass production, and adjusting SOP as necessary
  • See new models into production and follow progress during initial two weeks; support QA to track quality of first production PO#
  • Support QA with B2B material checking, lab checking, final inspection; check sale sample PO# for quality standards; follow China SOP (transfer)/build initial SOP at VN side
  • Solve production issues in line; daily check product quality in production line and support QAs to solve problems
  • Advise and support lab testing guide when issues found; work with Zhuhai lab and development on lab standard issues
  • Work with China development team on issues in PCS or new styles (e.g., WP leaking or testing issues)
  • Work with Tech, development, QA, and Chemical teams on special projects like cost saving, VOC reducing, computer stitching
