About Voltus:

Voltus is the leading virtual power plant operator of distributed energy resources. Voltus pays energy users to reduce or shift electricity use in response to grid stress, high prices, and high emissions. The Voltus platform connects distributed energy resources (DERs) to energy markets across the US and Canada, providing flexibility, reliability, and resilience to the grid while generating revenue for our partners. By partnering with industry leaders and the DER ecosystem, we are building the decarbonized, distributed, decentralized, and digitized energy system of the future.

We hire teammates who are bright, gritty, and good and who have a genuine passion for delivering a cleaner energy future and for working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. Voltus is a remote and virtual company, distributed across US, Canada, and abroad with many team members in New York, San Francisco, Boston, Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, DC and other cities.

About the Role:

We're searching for an Energy Markets Analyst to join our world-class team. This exciting opportunity will provide broad exposure to all that Energy Markets does: from working with Finance on revenue planning and financial reporting, to pushing for market changes with Regulatory Affairs, to educating and equipping our Sales team, to collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to develop market- and customer-facing products - and much more.

There will be an initial focus on data management and optimizing how we handle data, as well as program management. The ideal candidate will be able to grow into developing market strategy and supporting regulatory advocacy. This multifaceted position plays an integral role in helping our customers profit from their involvement in energy markets.

If you are bright, gritty, good, and intellectually curious, and if your brain marries creativity and technical diligence, you’re a great fit and should apply!

This is a remote role and you can work from anywhere, with the ability to engage in market-facing activities and to hold meetings with coworkers and stakeholders during continental US-based business hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand the role of demand response and other distributed energy resources in the various energy markets in which we operate and translate that understanding into messaging for sales and regulatory advocacy.
  • Become an expert in Voltus’ data architecture and processes and how they can be leveraged to scale energy markets’ operations, from asset qualification to financial settlements.
  • Develop analytical tools to support the customer-facing needs of our Sales and Marketing efforts.
  • Define and implement processes and procedures to support flawless execution of our day-to-day responsibilities and market activities, including optimizing monthly market commitments and improving data management processes.
  • Responsible for managing one or more programs, accountable for financial forecasting, registrations, market invoicing, customer settlement, and financial reporting.
  • Assist in the registration and enrollment process of demand response assets to various utility and grid operator programs.
  • Work across teams, including Sales, Finance, Product, and Operations to improve the profitability of our market-specific portfolios.

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of working experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience in the demand-side energy industry (preferred, not required).
  • Exhibited interest in the energy and/or climate space.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work product.
  • Uncommonly driven to succeed and maniacally self-initiated.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment, while juggling several business-critical tasks per week.
  • A strong technical background in Excel and programming experience including with Python.
