The ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, along with 10+ years of experience in software engineering, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing teams. They should have proven experience designing and delivering scalable, cloud-native systems utilizing containerized environments and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes or ECS, and a deep understanding of microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and modern backend frameworks. Furthermore, familiarity with Server-Driven UI (SDUI) patterns and GraphQL APIs is preferred, alongside a strong grasp of software design principles, architecture patterns, and engineering best practices, including test-driven development and CI/CD, and hands-on experience with security-first design and implementation in cloud environments.
As the Director, Software Engineering, the candidate will lead the sizing, architecture, design, development, and testing of key programs within Marketplace Engineering, guiding the development of technical solutions that are scalable, high-performing, and built with a strong emphasis on quality and maintainability. They will lead a globally distributed team of engineers, driving hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management while fostering continuous feedback and skill development. The role involves collaborating with business stakeholders, product management, and the PMO to align on product roadmaps, ensuring stable and efficient production operations with a focus on uptime and reliability, and representing engineering in executive forums. Additionally, they will oversee engineering budgets, resource planning, and vendor relationships, define and track key performance indicators (KPIs), and ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory standards across all engineering initiatives.
