The Director of Engineering, Shopping and E-commerce will lead Minted's core e-commerce and broader digital customer experiences. This role focuses on driving innovation, enhancing performance, and guiding architectural evolution across systems critical for customer acquisition, engagement, and conversion. The position offers the opportunity to transform the end-to-end customer journey on Minted.com, from product discovery to checkout, with a significant business impact through technology.
The leader will oversee a team of approximately 25 engineers, including managing an engineering leadership team. A primary focus will be providing strategic direction and pragmatic execution to modernize and optimize the marketing and e-commerce flow. This role is ideal for someone driven by transforming technology stacks and leading significant engineering initiatives that directly impact customer experience.
Responsibilities
- Actively foster a culture of effective and efficient collaboration with product management, UX, analytics, business partners, and other engineering and product teams to achieve shared goals.
- Be responsible for the successful completion of the ongoing migration from a legacy monolithic architecture to a modern Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA).
- Lead engineering efforts for strategic business initiatives, including optimizing traffic channels, modernizing search and discovery, and revamping core business logic like pricing and promotions.
- Build and manage a process for sustained engineering and operational excellence, continuously elevating practices, promoting robust testing, and data-driven decisions.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to Engineering Managers and a Principal Engineer, fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement within the engineering teams.
- Guide critical technical decisions across the Shopping and Discovery engineering stack, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability for the platform.
- Oversee the development and optimization of all commerce-related features, enhancing key performance indicators for the customer journey.
- Manage third-party vendors and partnerships, ensuring accountability for the total cost of ownership of e-commerce systems.
- Actively contribute to talent development and acquisition, attracting, hiring, and growing top-tier engineering talent and leaders.
Requirements

- Technically astute, having previously held a Staff+ Engineer or Architect role, capable of guiding complex architectural decisions for high-volume, high-performance consumer web applications.
