The Director of Field Visual Merchandising is responsible for driving consistent execution of elevated merchandising strategies and programs across House of Sport doors with a 4-wall view, encompassing Athletic Apparel, Footwear, and Hardlines. This role ensures these executions reflect the brand’s visual strategy to create a differentiated customer experience that drives sales, margin, and turn.

The role will drive consistency of messaging and execution through the hiring, development, training, and mentoring of geographically based teams of Senior Managers and Dedicated Field Visual Merchandisers. Overall team success will be based on the implementation of House of Sport merchandise objectives through elevated in-store visual merchandising, storytelling, product placement, space flexing, gameplan execution, and the teaching and coaching of all managers and leads on merchandising elevation and fundamentals.

The Director, Field Visual Merchandising House of Sport will drive cross-functional engagement and partnerships to ensure a 360-degree approach to all merchandising initiatives. This involves working across the following Field and CSC constituents to ensure success: RVPs, DMs, Executive Directors, Common Purpose Managers, Store Managers, Visual Merchandising, Operations, Loss Prevention, Construction, Merchants, and PAR.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Drives Merchandising Excellence: Drives the understanding that Visual Merchandising is a key contributor to sales, margin, and turn by maximizing the impact of gameplans, productivity of product flow, identifying and partnering on solutions for space issues, seasonal product movement, and brand standards to ensure an elevated, cohesive merchandising presentation across all House of Sport stores.
  • Evaluates & Recommends: Evaluates and understands KPI trends to make commercial decisions and recommendations based on sound financial judgment.
  • Develops Merchandising Strategies: Develops and drives excellence of product merchandising through curation and storytelling, along with decision-making across the HO team that results in elevated merchandising across all brands and solutions to store-specific visual merchandising challenges. This includes the development, sustainment, and facilitation of merchandising training curriculums with training modules to support House of Sport.

  • Strategic Staffing: Establishes strategic staffing and succession plans; successfully delivers on proposed staffing objectives.
  • Talent Selection: Drives the talent selection process in alignment with the company’s talent philosophy for open direct/indirect reporting positions; ensures all direct reports are appropriately trained and on-boarded.
  • Drives Engagement: Drives engagement by creating a climate where people are motivated to do their best to help the organization achieve its objectives; focuses on voice of teammate data (e.g., Engagement & Pulse results), partnering with organization leadership to drive necessary changes.
  • Partners on Gameplans: Partners on major gameplan sets with the CSC visual team to understand company merchandising strategies, adjacency relevance, and gameplan tactics. Acts as the "voice of the HOS" during set development through to execution.
  • Program Alignment: Responsible for program alignment.
