Requirements

The Director, Labor Relations should have extensive experience leading labor relations activities and developing strategies to support business objectives. Candidates must possess expert guidance and strategic direction capabilities in contract negotiations, grievance handling, arbitration, effects bargaining, and compliance with the National Labor Relations Act. Strong relationship-building skills with union representatives and operations leaders are essential, as is experience managing third-party contractors and outside labor counsel. Experience overseeing Employee Relations (ER) activities, leading investigations, and managing teams is required. A background in developing and executing enterprise-wide ER/LR strategies and policies, in partnership with other leaders, is also necessary. Experience in the food manufacturing industry is preferred.

Responsibilities

The Director, Labor Relations will lead all labor relations activities, providing expert guidance and strategic direction on contract negotiations, grievance handling, arbitration, effects bargaining, NLRA compliance, and NLRB charge resolution. This role involves cultivating strong relationships with union representatives and operations leaders, managing third-party negotiators, and directing outside labor counsel. Responsibilities include overseeing all Employee Relations activities, leading investigations submitted through the Company Integrity Portal, and recommending outcomes for fairness and consistency. The Director will lead a team of Employee and Labor Relations Managers, contribute to enterprise-wide ER/LR strategies and policies, and partner with the Director of Employee Relations to align philosophies and drive initiatives. Key duties include managing union contract strategy, administration, and negotiations; serving as the primary resource for contract interpretation and implementation; facilitating negotiation preparations and strategic approaches; performing needs assessments for contract changes; leading post-negotiation implementation efforts; providing guidance on ER investigations and serving on the Investigation Recommendation Committee; partnering with Compliance and Legal on case management and protocol oversight; collaborating with site leadership on performance matters; identifying risk areas through data analytics; and providing daily support on labor and employee relations issues, including grievance handling and contract administration.
