  • Technical Certificate
  • Completion of Central Line Dialysis Technician Training Program
  • Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) - Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) upon hire, or Certified Hemodialysis Technologist/Technician (CHT) - Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT) upon hire
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
  • Ability to work primarily days with rotating weekends and holidays (72hrs/2wks)

Responsibilities

  • Understands water room equipment operation and function; completes testing and follows up appropriately on abnormal results and completes required documentation
  • Completes dialysis treatments, initiation and discontinuation from internal accesses and central lines, monitoring of vascular access function and appropriately reports signs of stenosis, occlusion or infection to RN
  • Uses aseptic technique to initiate and discontinue dialysis on stable patients utilizing CVC access and performs aseptic CVC dressing change
  • Assembles and prepares necessary treatment supplies, rinses and primes dialyzer and attaches and installs all required tubing according to unit procedure; tests and sets parameters according to dialysis prescription
  • Monitors equipment for safe and proper functioning, responds to alarms and makes appropriate adjustments including blood flow rates and fluid removal rates
  • Completes accurate documentation of dialysis access and patient treatment
  • Observes patient during treatments, notifies RN of any adverse reactions, and responds to dialysis-related emergencies immediately seeking assistance from RN
  • Provides technical assistance to nurses and readily follows direction from nurses for hemodialysis treatments
  • Participates in collaboration with patients, family, physicians, other nursing staff, and all ancillary departments
