Requirements

Candidates must possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or another accredited engineering field. A strong foundation in mechanical design, assembly design, and understanding of various materials and processes is essential. Familiarity with thermodynamics and electromechanical design, along with mastery of 3D CAD modeling software and structural analysis experience, is required. The role also demands self-starting, organizational, disciplined, teamwork, communication, and leadership skills, plus the ability to prototype, test design concepts hands-on, and execute battery abuse testing with a safety mindset. Desired qualifications include extensive knowledge of battery design strategies, battery industry experience, experience with Battery Thermal Runaway mitigation, protection, and testing, aviation industry experience, Design for Manufacturing experience, start-up company experience, and Catia 3Dx experience.

Responsibilities

The Battery Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing new battery packs and components that meet extreme safety and performance requirements. This includes solving technical problems, iterating on designs, and performing hands-on coupon and scale testing of design concepts. Responsibilities also involve modeling in 3D CAD, creating drawings, managing bills of materials, and guiding parts and assemblies through the review and release process. The engineer will collaborate with suppliers to ensure manufacturability of parts and perform any necessary tasks to solve problems and improve the team's performance.
