Position Overview

Sourcegraph is seeking a Senior+ Design Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of Amp, our agentic coding tool. This role is for an individual who is passionate about crafting powerful and intuitive tools for developers, comfortable with both design and code, and excited to shape the future of software development. You will be instrumental in designing and building the user experience of Amp, from initial interaction to advanced usage.

You will ship features multiple times a day and collaborate directly with users.

Key Responsibilities & Goals

Within one month, you will:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of Amp's functionalities and team norms.
  • Familiarize yourself with the development processes for Amp.
  • Develop a deep understanding of user workflows, technical limitations, and design principles.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to deliver high-quality features that integrate seamlessly.

Within three months, you will:

  • Contribute to building and designing the leading agentic coding tool and platform.
  • Ship product enhancements based on user feedback across various areas, including the marketing site and documentation.
  • Regularly code, prototype, engage with users and customers, and work within a team that shares these values.

About You

You are a bold, forward-thinking designer with a unique approach, contributing to what may be the most important technology of this century. You have a proven history of leading design or design engineering efforts on significant products, features, or platforms. You are as comfortable customizing your terminal environment as you are working in Figma.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in design engineering or frontend engineering with substantial design responsibilities.
  • Experience working in a reputable tech company or startup.
  • Experience utilizing AI development tools.
  • Proficiency in modern frontend technologies (Svelte/React, TypeScript), design tools (Figma), and in-browser design practices.
  • Exceptional design sensibility and aesthetic judgment.
  • Ability to translate high-level concepts into detailed, production-ready user interfaces.
  • Strong collaboration skills with both designers and engineers.
  • Must be comfortable coding regularly and working proficiently in both the terminal and design software.

Nice to Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.

Hours & Location

  • While we hire globally, there is a preference for candidates located in specific regions for this role. However, all qualified individuals are encouraged to apply.
  • Working hours must overlap with PST for at least 10 hours per week.
  • Sourcegraph values dedication and hard work, believing that building outstanding products requires more than just a standard 40-hour work week.
