Requirements
Candidates should possess 5 or more years of experience with highway or bridge construction, a high school diploma or equivalent, and excellent communication and problem-solving skills. A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering is preferred, but not required. VDOT Materials Certified in highway & bridges, DEQ Dual Inspector; Bridge and Roadway Construction certification, VDOT Soils & Aggregate Compaction, VDOT Asphalt I & II, VDOT Intermediate Work Zone, and OSHA-10 are required, while DEQ ESC Inspector, DEQ SWM Inspector, ACI/WACEL Concrete, and HAZMAT/Nuclear Safety certifications are preferred. Experience with Prolog Construction Management software is also preferred.
Responsibilities
The Construction Inspector will review blueprints, monitor construction progress, examine exterior work, utilize survey instruments to verify completed work, take photographs, and maintain a log. They will also conduct MOT and E&S reviews, update project documentation, coordinate with the Senior Project Inspector, identify and track issues, identify non-conforming work, prepare daily reports, recommend solutions to field issues, directly support the Senior Project Inspector on the project site, monitor Contractor’s operations, provide technical expertise, monitor project for cleanliness, and coordinate and facilitate all construction activities related to the General Contractor (GC) and Client.
