Requirements

  • Ability to assess patient needs, respond to dialysis treatments, monitor conditions, and communicate with physicians
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (implied by role as Charge Registered Nurse)

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day guidance, support, and direction to direct patient care staff, including informal and formal feedback for performance evaluations
  • Participate in department staffing, hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions; recommend and initiate as appropriate
  • Ensure compliance with all company, facility procedures, policies, and state/federal regulations
  • Approve or disapprove time or personnel schedule changes in the absence of the Facility Administrator
  • Participate in patient care plan meetings and supervise completion of short- and long-term care plans
  • Train and orient staff as necessary; routinely observe and guide staff for adherence to policies and procedures
  • Promote and assist with OSHA compliance for a safe and clean working environment
  • Maintain overall shift operation in a safe, efficient, and effective manner; conduct staff meetings monthly or as needed with Facility Administrator
  • Meet routinely with Facility Administrator to discuss personnel, patient care status, issues, and information
  • Supervise all documentation of patient information
  • Coordinate Charge Nurse duties with Staff RNs acting in relief charge capacity
  • Assess daily patient care needs and develop/distribute patient care assignments appropriately
  • Assume primary responsibility in emergency situations
  • Assess patient needs, respond to dialysis treatments, communicate concerns to physicians, and implement changes in care/treatment as directed
  • Monitor and supervise all patient care activity during dialysis and assist as necessary
  • Collaborate with direct patient care team in decision-making to benefit patient care
  • Continuously monitor patient’s condition for problems and complications associated with dialysis
  • Administer medications to patients per physician’s orders
  • Act as subject matter expert and resource for staff members
  • Admit new patients according to facility procedure
  • Ensure educational needs of patients are met; educate patient and family about End Stage Renal Disease, dialysis therapy, diet, and medication
  • Supervise safe and effective use of all equipment involved in direct patient care; operate dialysis and emergency equipment when needed
  • Perform required testing, verification, and initial checklists for start-up and shut-down procedures per Technical Services Manual
  • Assist with special projects, other duties as assigned by Facility Administrator, interviewing potential staff, and promoting efficient use of medical supplies
