Clinical Assistant I / Revenue Claims Specialist

Position Type: Temporary (6 Month Contract to Hire) Hourly Rate: $25/hr

Position Overview

The Clinical Assistant I/Revenue Claims Specialist will support the Genetic Counseling project team by managing operations related to reimbursement, collecting follow-up data, acting as a liaison between departments, and contributing to product improvements. This role is initially a 6-month contract with the potential for conversion to a full-time permanent position.

Responsibilities

  • Interdepartmental Communication:
    • Communicate directly with Prior Authorization, Claims and Appeals, and lab teams to troubleshoot issues.
    • Verify samples and streamline processes.
    • Serve as a liaison between these teams and the genetic counselors.
  • Data Collection and Reimbursement Operations:
    • Assist with data collection for internal projects, product development, and reimbursement-related operations.
    • Track outcomes of payment resolution, appeals, and negotiated claims to ensure goal achievement.
  • Billing and Coding:
    • Review and monitor billing and coding changes.
    • Research, evaluate, and interpret guidance from various sources to determine departmental actions.
  • Clinical Assistant Duties:
    • Review incoming referrals and claim denials, requesting additional documentation/clarification as needed.
    • Request and track sample collection kits and respond to patient inquiries regarding samples.
    • Update internal databases regarding test development progress and add notes to LIMS cases for patient or provider contacts.
    • Assist genetic counselors in addressing questions from clinics and customer support.
  • Team Participation:
    • Participate in team meetings.
  • Compliance and Training:
    • Work with Protected Health Information (PHI) regularly in both paper and electronic forms.
    • Complete mandatory training relating to HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance, and security training within the first 30 days of hire.
    • Maintain current status on Natera training requirements.
    • Pass a post-offer criminal background check.
  • Other Duties:
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • High School Diploma (Required)
    • BA/BS in biology, allied health, or a science-related field (Strongly Preferred)
    • Consideration will be given to candidates pursuing a four-year bachelor’s degree program who meet educational requirements and possess at least 2-3 years of professional work experience in biotech, life sciences, medical billing, insurance collections, or a related industry.
  • Experience:
    • Experience in insurance collections or medical billing is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Google Mail, and Google Documents.
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail.

Pay Range

The pay range for this role is $22-$25/hr. Actual compensation is determined by various factors including skill set, years and depth of experience, certifications, and office location.
