Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the art director to define and implement the artistic direction for game levels, ensuring visually striking, historically authentic Chinese environments balanced with gameplay features; contribute innovative ideas inspired by Chinese history, culture, films, and art
  • Conduct research on historical Chinese geography, architecture, and cultural elements to ensure level design authenticity, using references to guide artistic license while maintaining a unique aesthetic
  • Supervise the end-to-end production pipeline for level art, creating lush, pixel-perfect levels that support the realistic visual style of Blood Message and foster exploration, storytelling, and gameplay mechanics like traditional combat and traversal
  • Work with level designers, narrative teams, and art director to create environments that support storytelling through details, lighting, composition, and contrast, conveying emotional and narrative depth aligned with game themes
  • Lead and mentor a team of level artists, providing constructive feedback, setting quality standards, fostering collaboration, acting as liaison with the art director for visual consistency, managing workload, and meeting project milestones
  • Establish and maintain efficient artistic pipelines and workflows for level creation, optimization, and integration in Unreal Engine 5; innovate to streamline processes and ensure seamless collaboration with the China-based studio
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration with level designers, programmers, animators, and QA teams to balance gameplay mechanics and visual storytelling; participate in production meetings to identify, prioritize, and assign tasks for smooth workflows and alignment with studio goals
  • Resolve problems and drive innovation in level art production
