Billing Coordinator
Position Overview
As a Tia Billing Coordinator, you will be every Tia member’s partner in their health and wellness journey, helping them navigate the healthcare system, billing/claims, and ensuring they receive a concierge-level experience at Tia. In this position, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks requiring data analysis, in-depth evaluation, and sound judgment. To succeed in this role, you must possess in-depth knowledge of healthcare billing software and medical insurance policies. The ideal candidate must also be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, as communicating with patients and various insurance payers will form a large part of the job. You’ll also partner with cross-functional teams across the company to empower providers to focus on members' care and support overall business needs.
Essential Functions
- Member Billing Coordination: Collaborate closely with medical professionals, insurance payers, specialists, and other healthcare stakeholders to ensure seamless care coordination for our members.
- Day-to-day Member Communications: Manage member questions & feedback, and resolve member concerns via chat and phone support.
- Single Point-of-Contact: Act as a single point-of-contact to coordinate resources along the care delivery spectrum, identify gaps, and provide proactive follow-up.
- Customer Inquiries: Respond to customer questions via telephone and written correspondence regarding their insurance claims.
- Workflow Navigation: Navigate through complex billing workflows to understand patients’ next steps and clearly communicate these to patients and internal team members.
- Delinquent Account Management: Collect delinquent accounts by establishing payment arrangements with patients, monitoring payments, and following up with patients when payment lapses occur.
- Claims Processing: Examine patient bills for accuracy and request any missing information for proper claims processing.
- Continuum of Care: Coordinate with other resources and providers to ensure a smooth continuum of care for patients and become a subject matter expert in billing-related care coordination workflows.
- Referral Management: Ensure that members' needs are met by connecting them immediately to someone who can assist if their needs cannot be addressed directly (e.g., urgent needs, clinical needs).
- Member Relationship Management: Exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining strong partnering relationships with members.
- Process Improvement: Suggest changes to leadership in an effective way to improve workflows for oneself and others.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Manage coordination of care within Tia’s ecosystem, working cross-functionally across different teams to ensure members' needs are met.
- Documentation: Clearly document all communications and contacts with providers and personnel in standardized documentation and messaging.
- Cross-Training: Be cross-trained on additional parts of the care coordination department with a focus on first contact resolution and creating a seamless experience for patients.
- Workflow Learning: Learn complex workflows for Tia services, regarding billing, claims, and insurance practices.
- Tech Troubleshooting: Provide technical troubleshooting support.
Minimum Qualifications / Target Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Internet Connectivity: Minimum Speeds: 3.8Mbps/3.0Mbps (upload/download).
- Experience: 2-4 years of experience in healthcare billing/claims or a related field.
- Work Environment: Comfortable with a fast-paced environment and frequent change; energized by metrics.
- Knowledge: Understanding of healthcare billing and insurance practices, medical terminology, and member engagement in a healthcare context.
- Skills: Excellent communication, teamwork, and management skills. Must be empathetic but resolute in decision-making, and attentive to detail.
