Candidates should have 7+ years of industry experience in designing, building, scaling, and supporting backend systems in production, with a strong grasp of software engineering practices like code reviews, quality focus, and documentation. Proficiency in a major programming language such as Java, Go, or Python is required, with a preference for strong hands-on experience in Java. Experience with configuring and deploying distributed systems and microservices using modern tools like Kubernetes and Helm is necessary. A strong focus on project delivery, communication skills, experience in driving operational excellence for large production services, customer centricity, teamwork, technical leadership, and mentorship are also essential. A BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience, is required.
The Backend Software Engineer will technically drive advancements in the CP Charter, ensuring the quality of deliverables. They will design and build technology for this purpose and contribute ideas to drive efficient release engineering. Responsibilities include leveraging the latest Kubernetes ecosystem for CFK, improving the management and monitoring of large CP clusters in multi-geography deployments, and enhancing security to handle regulatory data protection changes. The role involves handling open-ended strategy, better supporting on-call engineers, and resolving customer issues within SLA. This includes architecting and designing solutions, reviewing design implementations and code, coding complex parts of the system, handling customer on-calls, debugging issues, and suggesting mitigations. The engineer will also aid in development of the roadmap, evolve team vision and direction, and collaborate with the CP team to make progress on the roadmap and realize the vision. They will build mission-critical backend services, troubleshoot and debug technical issues within a complex technical stack, ensure operational readiness of services, and meet availability and performance SLA commitments. The engineer will also focus on process and operational improvements.
