Job Summary

We are seeking a Backend Engineer to contribute to scaling our billing system. You will be an integral part of the Billing team, responsible for the infrastructure that enables our products to generate revenue. Your primary focus will be on the complex backend systems and data pipelines that ensure smooth billing operations.

Responsibilities

While most PostHog work is done in public, billing-related tasks often involve sensitive intellectual property. However, here are some examples of your potential contributions:

• Scaling our billing system backend to support over $100 million in revenue and beyond.
• Optimizing complex batch processing jobs and workflow orchestration for usage reporting and quota limiting.
• Building and maintaining data transformation pipelines to convert raw invoice data into internal reports, investor reports, and GAAP-compliant financials.
• Driving architectural decisions for scaling our billing infrastructure.
• Improving data accuracy and performance across our billing systems.
• Supporting the implementation of new billing schemes for upcoming product launches.

Requirements

• Extensive backend engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Experience with workflow orchestration and task processing tools.
• A keen ability to anticipate and address edge cases.
• A passion for simplifying complexity and a willingness to refactor for clarity.
