Senior Staff Engineer, Capacity Management & Load Testing
Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Staff Engineer to lead the development of world-class capacity management and load testing capabilities, crucial for scaling our mission of delivering honest financial products that improve lives.
What You’ll Do
- Technical Strategy: Define and execute the technical strategy for Affirm's next generation of capacity planning and load testing capabilities and practices.
- Collaboration: Partner with the broader engineering organization to understand service load dynamics, from daily operations to peak events.
- Framework Development: Design, develop, and roll out next-generation capacity models and load testing frameworks.
- Innovation Champion: Promote innovative, scalable, and user-friendly solutions across the engineering organization.
- Technology Evaluation: Drive the evaluation, development, and rollout of new technologies and frameworks, fostering a strong culture of innovation.
- Research & Prototyping: Actively research, brainstorm, prototype, and present new ideas.
This role demands an engineer capable of operating at multiple levels: articulating a clear vision, influencing senior leadership on strategic investments, and guiding fellow engineers to achieve impactful results.
What We Look For
- Experience:
- Proven experience in load testing or capacity planning at an organization serving millions of users with variable/seasonal traffic.
- Extensive expertise in designing and implementing cluster management and large-scale load testing.
- Successful track record leading and delivering complex, multi-quarter engineering infrastructure projects.
- 12+ years of software engineering experience.
- Collaboration & Leadership:
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with senior staff engineers and architects across multiple teams.
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to mentor high-potential, early-career engineers.
- Detail-oriented with strong opinions on team technologies, fully immersed in day-to-day execution and delivery.
- Strong communicator adept at presenting technical strategies to the engineering organization.
- Industry Experience (Plus):
- Experience within the Fintech and Retail industries, encompassing both B2C and B2B (merchants/affiliates) models.

Compensation & Benefits
- Base Pay Grade: R
- Equity Grade: 15
- Pay Structure: Affirm utilizes a simple and transparent pay structure based on factors like location, experience, and skills. New employees typically start at the beginning of the pay range.

USA Base Pay Ranges:
- CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT: $260,000 - $310,000 per year
- All Other U.S. States: $232,000 - $282,000 per year
